End sex-change procedures: the biggest medical scandal in history
Riley Gaines posted her warning on Oct. 27, the same day Texas Children’s Hospital opened a settlement-required clinic for patients seeking detransition care.
Riley Gaines warned against cutting off children’s healthy, functional body parts in a post she wrote on X on Oct. 27, 2026, saying the practice would become “the biggest medical scandal in history.” She said she awaited broad public agreement with that judgment about what was being done to children1.
In a separate development that day, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that Texas Children’s Hospital had opened a detransition clinic under its settlement with his office, Click2Houston reported2. The settlement requires the hospital to fund the clinic for five years, provide services without charge to patients, and promote the clinic on its website.
The clinic provides detransition-related medical care through age 21, while older patients may receive related obstetric and gynecologic care, according to Click2Houston2. Patients may receive services at different Texas Children’s locations according to their needs and care-team recommendations.
Former hospital nurse Vanessa Sivadge put the patients at the center of the announcement. She described services including endocrinology, surgery, primary care, fertility counseling, mental health services, social work, and speech pathology, Townhall reported3. Sivadge said she was thinking of detransitioners who had suffered in silence and fought to have their voices heard.
The dispute began years earlier. Texas Children’s announced in 2022 that it had discontinued sex-change interventions for minors4, but Sivadge later said patients continued receiving treatment in its endocrinology and gynecology departments. She disclosed her allegations in June 2024 and was fired two months later after being placed on leave; she described the termination as retaliation for whistleblowing.
The clinic followed a settlement reached after Paxton’s office investigated the hospital’s Medicaid billing4. His office alleged that the hospital improperly billed Texas Medicaid for sex-change interventions2. The agreement required a $10 million payment to resolve Paxton’s claims under the Texas Health Care Program Fraud Prevention Act. The hospital denied allegations that its physicians performed surgical procedures on minors5.
The settlement also restricts what the hospital can do going forward. It bars Texas Children’s from providing sex-change interventions to minors6 and requires automatic relinquishment of medical staff privileges for physicians who perform those interventions2. For families seeking help after transition, the agreement places the obligation to provide that care on Texas Children’s.
Parents have every right to resist puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and sex-change surgery for their children. Family Brief’s position is straightforward: end these interventions on minors, uphold parental authority, and require institutions to care for patients seeking help after transition urge judges to take the harms of these treatments seriously.
