White House credits TrumpRx for biggest drug-price drop

The White House says prescription prices posted their largest annual decline in more than 60 years; families can compare that claim with TrumpRx listings and BLS data.

Families need lower prescription prices, and the White House credits TrumpRx with the largest annual decline in more than 60 years.

An August 17 White House release said new data showed prescription-drug prices had their largest annual decline in more than 60 years, the steepest since 1963.

It names TrumpRx as the cause and calls the result the largest decline. The second line, “A Promise Made, Promise Kept. 🇺🇸,” presents the result as a pledge the administration has fulfilled1.

Behind that promise, the White House’s August 17 release reported prescription-drug prices down 3.9% since Trump took office. The White House said the decline came as its Most Favored Nation policies took hold2.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics subsequently reported that its prescription-drug index fell 1.2% in September3.

The administration’s February launch fact sheet traced the initiative to Trump’s May 12, 2025, executive order on Most-Favored-Nation prescription-drug pricing4. By August, the White House said 17 major drugmakers, representing approximately 86% of the branded drug market, had agreed to align U.S. prices with the lowest paid by comparable developed nations2.

TrumpRx launched with discounts on 40 branded medicines, according to the fact sheet. Patients with valid prescriptions access those savings through printable or downloadable coupons or manufacturer channels4. The TrumpRx homepage now displays “$700,000,000+ Saved for Americans.”5

For families paying out of pocket for fertility medicines, the launch fact sheet listed Gonal-F at as little as $168 per pen and projected average savings exceeding $2,000 per cycle4.

Those household costs are the right test of drug policy. Family First economics means making necessary care more affordable, including for couples trying to have children. Policymakers should build on lower prices and keep their attention on what families actually pay for the medicines they need.
