Vehicle drives onto Wichita soccer field, killing child and adult
Police say a child and an adult were killed and others injured; Wichita canceled all events at the complex as investigators work to determine what happened.

Police said a child and an adult were killed during a soccer game at Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita, Kansas. A vehicle drove onto the field, and the driver was taken into custody1.
The City of Wichita has canceled all events at the complex until further notice1. According to its website, the complex hosts youth and adult soccer leagues and has 11 outdoor turf fields and an indoor facility2. Parents with children on those leagues now have to wait for the city's next update.
Capt. Aaron Moses of the Wichita Police Department said first responders were sent to the complex after multiple 911 calls around 3:25 p.m. Central Time. Moses said two juveniles were inside the vehicle3. A witness told KWCH that a black pickup truck struck multiple people on the youth soccer fields before stopping farther down the fields. Moses said it is not yet clear how the vehicle breached the gate or how fast it was driving2. The Shawnee Mission School District said the incident occurred as Shawnee Mission West and Shawnee Mission South girls flag football teams were playing on an adjacent field. The school district said KSHSAA suspended the in-progress third-place game and the 5 p.m. girls flag football state championship game4. KWCH reported that investigators are still working to determine what led up to the incident5.
Police reported two deaths, a child and an adult, and multiple injuries3.
Capt. Aaron Moses said the two victims were declared dead at the scene, and ABC News reported that others were injured and taken to the hospital3. KWCH reported that several others suffered serious to critical injuries5. Moses said several people were taken to hospitals, and their conditions were not released4. Witnesses told KWCH that many families and children were on the field when it happened2.
Police asked for the public's help as they search for video from the sports complex2. Officials are working to notify family members of the victims, Moses said. The City of Wichita said updates regarding future events will be shared as information becomes available5.
