Tuberville speaks; Kennedy presses Trump on costs

As the midterms approach, separate reports cover Tuberville’s Senate speech and Kennedy’s call for Trump to address affordability.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville spoke on the Senate floor for nearly 20 minutes about what he called the “mental illness” of transgenderism and furries, Blaze Media reports1. The outlet added a statement from Terry Schilling to its story.

“The priority should be to treat the underlying cause of the gender confusion, not enabling the fantasy.”1

— Terry Schilling

Why it matters

Schilling has also urged Republicans to take the economic challenge of family formation seriously. In First Things, Patrick T. Brown argues tariffs cannot restore the male-breadwinner model; he reports that Terry Schilling urged Republicans to address family formation and consider a family wage2.

APP’s midterm advice

The same economic message runs through APP’s advice to candidates. The New Transsexual reports that APP’s September 17 memo warned that pressing transgender issues and DEI “alone, while important, may not be sufficient” for Republicans in November.

  • The article says the memo called the Republican economic pitch “at best unclear.”
  • The memo went to GOP candidates under the subject line “Winning Messages for the Midterms.”3
  • Its instruction to those candidates is direct: “Republicans must also make the case to families on what they plan to do to help improve their economic standing.”3

By the numbers

Taxpayers are paying for the White House’s own midterm-season messaging. CBS reports the U.S. government produced and paid for the Trump-focused ads; the first carried the disclosure, “Paid for by the U.S. Government.”4 The White House denied the ad was political and called it a “public service announcement.”4

Kennedy on affordability

The midterms are “going to be close,” Sen. John Kennedy of Louisiana said on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan.”5 He urged Trump to address the nation about the Iran war, or to have Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Gen. Dan Caine explain it5. Voters he met while campaigning, he said, were worried about living costs and Iran and knew the two were linked.5
