Trump pressed to cut Planned Parenthood’s federal funding
Nearly 40 pro-life and faith groups are urging the Trump administration to cut Planned Parenthood off from federal funding by revoking its qualified vendor status, Fox News reported1.
“allegedly defrauded taxpayers, violated federal laws, and abused public trust.”
The groups want federal officials to use administrative debarment rather than seek a funding cutoff through Congress. They say this route would not need congressional approval1.
The letter, spearheaded by Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins, asks four Cabinet officials to complete and expand the SBA audit launched in January. The coalition argues that Planned Parenthood has “allegedly defrauded taxpayers, violated federal laws, and abused public trust.” It also points to allegations including Medicaid fraud, illegal trafficking of aborted fetal body parts, health and safety violations, and failure to report sex crimes against minors. The groups say those allegations warrant reviewing the organization’s eligibility for federal programs1.
In January, SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler announced an audit of 38 Planned Parenthood centers over their eligibility for $88 million in Paycheck Protection Program loans, Fox News reported1.
If the administration finds fraud, it could bar Planned Parenthood from doing business with federal agencies or programs for up to three years, Students for Life Action’s Kristi Hamrick told Fox News1.
