Rod Dreher predicts Komatireddy will become New York AG
His post followed the only debate-stage meeting between Republican challenger Saritha Komatireddy and incumbent Letitia James; early voting begins Oct. 24.
Rod Dreher posted on X on Oct. 10, two days after the NY1 debate between Attorney General Letitia James and her Republican challenger, Saritha Komatireddy. He called Komatireddy an “amazing woman” and said she would be New York’s next attorney general1.
Komatireddy posted the video at 12:09 a.m. on Oct. 9; Dreher praised her on X the next day1. Komatireddy’s X post page showed 900.6K views2.
“New Yorkers, you do not have an attorney general right now,”
He published it as a quote of Saritha Komatireddy's post from the day before. That post carries a video and a line Komatireddy attributes to Letitia James: "You don’t have to look at the facts and the law1."
The debate took place Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Spectrum News NY1 newsroom, with James as the Democratic incumbent and Komatireddy as the Republican challenger3. Komatireddy opened hard against the incumbent: “New Yorkers, you do not have an attorney general right now,” she said. James answered that her opponent “knows nothing about the office of the attorney general.”4
The exchange turned to the Cornell case, after Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed James as special prosecutor in charge of the Cornell University rape investigation. Komatireddy, a longtime federal prosecutor making her first run for office, said James had already screwed the case up by prejudging it. James defended her earlier comments on the case as empathy. James also tied the debate to President Trump, who endorsed Komatireddy, telling her she was basically auditioning for another position4.
The debate ran 60 minutes, according to Spectrum News3. NY1 reports that Komatireddy says she will prioritize mental illness and Medicaid fraud, and that she argued James has made New York less safe. Asked about Trump's endorsement, Komatireddy said she would protect New Yorkers from both President Trump and "President AOC," and that she has met Trump once, for about 30 seconds4. Fox News Video reports that James struggled to name a former attorney general she admired, which prompted a sharp response from Komatireddy5.
The date voters need now is set: early voting begins Saturday, Oct. 24, and Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 33.
