Moms for Liberty puts school boards on notice with AWARE

Moms for Liberty says its new system scans agendas across more than 13,000 school districts, aiming to alert parents before local boards vote.

Moms for Liberty CEO Tina Descovich announced M4L AWARE at the group’s October 9 National Summit. The program is an artificial-intelligence program that monitors school-board agendas nationwide, and it is built to put parents in the room before their school board votes. In its October 10 post, Moms for Liberty said AWARE helps identify districts that support parental rights and choose strong curricula, and those that do not1. The group, which Descovich co-founded in 2021, says its chapters are already reviewing agendas and wants more parents to show up where local decisions are made.

The October 10 post opens with a warning to school boards: “SCHOOL BOARDS ON NOTICE.”1 The program’s name stands for “Agenda Watch, Alert, Respond, Engage,” and the group says it covers more than 13,000 school districts2. Just the News reported that the group unveiled the project at its annual meeting in Dallas that Friday3. The monitoring is the first step.

From alerts to action

The second step is boots in the boardroom. Descovich says the alerts will help Moms for Liberty decide where to send volunteers to board meetings, turning advance notice into organized parent participation.

The third step is the courtroom. Descovich told Just the News that AWARE will help Moms for Liberty mobilize lawyers more quickly to challenge policies it believes infringe on parents' rights. "We've got so many legal partners here in the room that are willing to stand with us and just sue these school districts left and right when they're violating parental rights," she said. Just the News reports the group has already launched significant litigation against school boards3.

How AWARE works

AWARE is designed to give parents advance warning before school-board votes. Descovich said reviewing thousands of agenda pages each week is time-consuming and that school districts count on it: “it’s incredibly time-consuming to sift through thousands of pages in agendas each week, and school districts count on that.”””4 She said the tool is meant to help families respond to concerning policies even in agendas released late in the week.

Just the News reported that AWARE scores agenda items one through 10 on concerns such as First Amendment rights, curriculum and transparency, and on positive developments3. For a family, the difference is concrete. A father who learns about a curriculum change after the vote can only complain. A mother who learns about it three days before the vote can sign up to speak, bring neighbors and put her objection on the record while board members still have a choice to make. The boardroom is where school policy meets the families expected to live with it.

When the system flags a high-priority item, Fox News Digital reports, it sends local Moms for Liberty chapters a plain-language summary and a ready-to-share alert. Moms for Liberty says the design gives chapters roughly 72 hours to mobilize parents, sign up for public comment and scrutinize proposals before board members vote5. The post casts agenda review as groundwork for action: chapters are identifying items to celebrate and issues that demand action.

The federal backdrop

The launch came four days after the Justice Department revisited the last national fight over parents at school-board meetings. The National School Boards Association sent President Biden a September 29, 2021, letter urging the federal government to consider parent actions potentially equivalent to domestic terrorism.

What followed reached into Moms for Liberty’s own membership. Fox News Digital reported that the department’s Weaponization Working Group found the FBI opened 25 “Guardian assessments” involving parents after then-Attorney General Merrick Garland’s Oct. 4, 2021, memorandum on threats against school officials. The group concluded that the memo “wrongly weaponized the Department of Justice against parents.” A Justice Department statement confirms an FBI field office interviewed a mother because she was a member of Moms for Liberty6.

The Justice Department's 2026 report says the NSBA letter described parents protesting school policies as participating in "domestic terrorism" and asked the federal government to "arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate them7." The letter itself said the actions it described "could be equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes8." In its own materials, the FBI disparaged Moms for Liberty as a "right wing mom's group6."

Parents at the table

Parents who track board agendas can celebrate sound decisions and challenge items that demand action before votes shape the schools their children attend. Moms for Liberty’s appeal gives parents a way to act on that responsibility: show up and take part1. An alert is only a warning; the parent who walks into the meeting is the answer.

Parents have a natural right and responsibility to direct their children’s care, education and upbringing; the family is prior to government, not subject to it. School boards answer to the families whose children fill their classrooms, and a board that welcomes those parents into the room is doing its job. That call puts the next move in parents’ hands: “ The post directs parents to find a local chapter or start one if none is nearby.
