Michigan voters should demand protection from child sex-change procedures

Nine days before the Nov. 3 midterms, Minaj’s rally call put protection from sex-change procedures for children squarely before Michigan voters.

Michigan voters should demand that every Senate candidate protect children from sex-change procedures, and Nicki Minaj put the stake in one sentence at Donald Trump’s rally this Sunday. She spoke at McMorran Place Arena in Port Huron on Sunday, Oct. 25, nine days before the Nov. 3 midterms. Minaj told the crowd: “We don’t want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right?”1

Acyn’s Oct. 25 post quotes Minaj: “We really need all of these great people to be elected… We want people to leave the children alone. Leave them out of it right. 2 IJR reports that on the “Katie Miller Pod,” Minaj said she opposed children transitioning but had no objection to adults transitioning. Michigan Senate candidates still have to answer the question: who will leave the children alone?

Parents have a duty to protect children

Parents have the right and the duty to direct their children’s upbringing, and guarding a child from sex-change procedures sits at the center of that duty. A child cannot weigh the permanent cost of puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones, which is exactly why the law treats children as children.

Of 39 parents of minors who spoke to Reuters, 28 said they felt “pressured or rushed to proceed with treatment” for their kids, according to the American Principles Project Foundation’s 2024 report The Gender Industrial Complex. The same report, drawing on a Reuters review of 18 gender clinics, says seven clinics said that, depending on a child’s age, they would begin prescribing puberty blockers based on the first visit if there were no “red flags.”3

The same report quotes the parents of detransitioner Chloe Cole, recalling the ultimatum they were given: “would you rather have a dead daughter or a live son.”3 A parent handed an ultimatum like that has not been given a choice.

El-Sayed leaves decisions to doctors and parents

The left’s answer is that these decisions belong to doctors, patients and parents, and that politicians should stay out. It sounds like respect for families, but the providers’ own record shows how little room it leaves for them.

77% vs 29%: of Trump vs. Harris swing voters knew Harris supported letting children under 18 transition without informing their parents (Blueprint 2024).

of Trump vs. Harris swing voters knew Harris supported letting children under 18 transition without informing their parents (Blueprint 2024). From the report: “In a similar vein, 77 percent of Trump swing voters knew that Harris supported “allowing children under 18 to transition genders without informing their parents,” compared to just 29 percent of Harris swing voters.”

A 2025 American Principles Project report on Planned Parenthood says patients “can receive hormones on their first visit, often without seeing a doctor, sometimes via telehealth or even over the phone.” The same report says some affiliates offer other “gender-affirming” interventions for minors without parental consent4.

So which is it: a decision for doctors, when a doctor may never be in the room, or a decision for parents, when some providers act without asking them? Only a law that sets a line for every child keeps a clinic from drawing its own.

Michigan voters can demand clear answers

The Supreme Court decided United States v. Skrmetti on June 18, 2025, by a 6-3 vote, with Chief Justice Roberts writing for the Court. The Court held that Tennessee’s SB1 bars puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors when used to enable an identity inconsistent with biological sex, and that the law draws no suspect classification and satisfies rational-basis review under the Equal Protection Clause.

As of mid-2025, KFF counted 27 states with laws or policies limiting minors’ access to transition procedures, and 25 remained in effect after Skrmetti5. President Trump directed the Justice Department in 2025 to prioritize enforcement, and the Civil Division opened a nationwide investigation into the child gender-transition industry6.

Before then, every candidate asking for their vote should answer three questions plainly. Should a Michigan child be put on puberty blockers, yes or no? Should a Michigan child be given cross-sex hormones, yes or no? Should any clinic treat a minor without a parent’s consent, yes or no? A candidate who cannot answer has already told voters whose side he is on. Leave the children alone, and vote that way on Nov. 3.
