MacIntyre ties Omar citizenship report to midterm turnout
MacIntyre said the reported citizenship move had to happen as Omar faced reelection; ABC reported a judicially authorized search in an ongoing criminal investigation.

Auron MacIntyre's October 15 post quoted a headline attributing to The Wall Street Journal the claim that the Trump administration sought to strip Rep. Ilhan Omar of U.S. citizenship. MacIntyre said the reported action would give the base an “incredible reason” to turn out and added that “it has to get done”1.
ABC News reported that the midterm elections, with Omar on the ballot for reelection, were 22 days away when the search took place2. That timing put a federal investigation into the closing stretch of her campaign, and the voters of her district were days from casting ballots.
On October 12, Homeland Security Investigations executed a search at Omar's Washington-area residence under a warrant secured by the Justice Department. Homeland Security Secretary Tom Homan confirmed the warrant and said a judge signed it. A Justice Department spokesperson said the action is part of a federal criminal investigation, and ABC News sources said the probe concerns Omar's immigration paperwork. Omar called the search political targeting and said she would not be silenced. In May, Vice President JD Vance said the administration was going to look into Omar over immigration fraud allegations2.
ABC News reported that Justice Department practice has been to advise prosecutors against overt investigative steps involving members of Congress or candidates within 60 days of an election. The search came 22 days before the midterms, inside that 60-day window2.
ABC News reported that Omar came to the United States as a refugee as a child and is a U.S. citizen. Omar has denied any wrongdoing, and she has not been charged with a crime2. ABC News reported that the Justice Department described the investigation as ongoing on Oct. 12.
