MacIntyre calls Slotkin a greater threat than Iran or Russia
His Oct. 18 post amplified an allegation about Sen. Elissa Slotkin, whose remarks described prosecutions as a deterrent to young people considering Trump administration jobs.
Auron MacIntyre told his followers on X that the greatest threat to the United States is not in Iran or Russia1. He was pointing at Sen. Elissa Slotkin, the Michigan Democrat, who is on video telling college students she wants prosecutions to scare young people away from jobs in the Trump administration2.
“I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him,”
In his Oct. 18 post, MacIntyre called the target of his warning the existential enemy and said the Trump administration should focus on destroying it1.
The video behind that post comes from an Oct. 13 event at the University of Chicago. It was a live recording of Vox's America, Actually! podcast, hosted by Vox editorial director Astead Herndon3. "I want to look at these signature cases and not just focus on the president, but on the people who enabled him," Slotkin said. She then described what she wants a graduate weighing a Trump administration job to think: "Lord, that might be buying myself a ton of problems that I don’t want, and so let me avoid participating in that." "I want that deterrence message," she said2.
Slotkin's own words aim at something more specific: a young person's decision to take a job in the Trump administration2.
The plan behind those words predates the campus event. In a Sept. 30 speech to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Slotkin argued that Democrats should pursue prosecutions of Trump officials if they retake Congress, Breitbart reported. "The goal here is to have a list of signature cases that go after some of the most obvious and harmful abuses of taxpayer dollars," she said. She named Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro as officials who should be held accountable. She also told that audience that misusing taxpayer money can bring a prison sentence of up to 20 years3.
Scott Kupor, director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, responded on X: "This is incredibly disappointing and unprofessional coming from a U.S. senator — endorsing political prosecutions to dissuade patriotic Americans from serving their country2." Slotkin said she wanted the threat of legal trouble to deter young people from taking jobs in the Trump administration.
Slotkin named her target herself: young people coming out of school, deciding where to start their careers.
