Kallie Keeler asks Supreme Court to intervene in girls’ wrestling
The Center Square reports Keeler said she was sexually assaulted during a December 2025 match against a male opponent who identifies as female.

Puyallup wrestler Kallie Keeler and her mother, Stephanie Brown, seek an injunction pending appeal from the Supreme Court1. Alliance Defending Freedom filed it. The Center Square reports Keeler said she was sexually assaulted during a December 2025 match against a male opponent who identifies as female2.
Keeler and her mother sued in federal court, asking the school district to follow Title IX by barring male wrestlers from competing against female opponents. The suit also asks that parents be notified before a female wrestler faces a male competitor2.
A federal district court and an appeals court declined those requests, so ADF is asking the Supreme Court to intervene. The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, the defendant, says it follows state law. According to ADF, the school did not report the incident as Washington law requires until media reports surfaced. Pierce County prosecutors declined to file charges, arguing they would be hard to prove, though the sheriff's office referred a rape charge. The Supreme Court's West Virginia v. B.P.J. ruling three months ago upheld state bans but did not require states to bar male students from female athletics2.
Keeler was 15 at the time of the match. A Let's Go Washington poll found that 73% of Republicans supported I-638. Among independents, 52% supported the measure. The same poll puts Democratic support at 48%, with 31% opposed2.
Girls' wrestling season starts in November, and Washington voters decide I-638 on next month's ballot. The measure would require enforcing policies that bar biological males from competing against female students in female-only interschool athletics. The League of Women Voters opposes it. The Supreme Court's response to the emergency application is the next development to watch. ADF attorney Hal Frampton says Keeler lost a season last year and is facing the loss of another2.
