BRANDON GILL OPENS RNC SPEECH WITH LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT TO AMERICANS...
At the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, opened his Wednesday speech with a land acknowledgment honoring American patriots, pioneers and explorers, Fox News Digital reported1.
Fox described land acknowledgments as a growing trend among Democratic politicians, who use them to recognize Native American tribes historically connected to the places where events are held1. Gill told Fox his version was meant to push back against what he sees as Democrats’ view of the United States1.
Gill’s opening remarks honored those who built the country, saying:1 “I'd like to acknowledge that we stand here today in the great state of Texas and the United States of America is the ancestral homeland of great American patriots, pioneers and explorers who put down roots, fight for freedom all over the globe and bled and died to build the greatest civilization ever known to man.”1 After the speech, he criticized the acknowledgments he said Democrats make at conventions and gatherings, arguing they amount to an apology for America1. Gill said he would not apologize for the country, which he called the greatest ever to exist1.
