Battleground Republicans Tie Iran War to Household Costs
As midterms approach, candidates are calling for an end to the conflict while pointing to gas prices and household affordability.
The Daily Caller reported that Republicans running in battleground states have begun speaking against the Iran war as midterms approach, with several candidates calling for an end to the conflict.
“Time to come home [and] take care of business here in America”
Candidates are making household affordability part of their case: Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany proposed tax cuts.
For families, the argument is direct: Iowa Rep. Hinson proposed suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports and other relief measures, presenting the war not only as a foreign-policy question but as a cost reaching household budgets and family purchasesHinson proposed suspending the gas tax, pausing diesel exports and other measures to provide relief from high prices1.
Tiffany said Tuesday, “Time to come home [and] take care of business here in America.”1

In July, Husted voted against a war-powers resolution one day after telling CNN he wanted the war to end. Tiffany and Iowa Rep. Ashley Hinson also voted against multiple war-powers resolutions to halt hostilities in Iran1.
A CNN/SSRS poll found that 26% of Americans approved of President Trump’s handling of the Iran war, including 60% of Republicans1.
The Daily Caller reported that Republican leaders raised concerns about Senate races in Ohio, Iowa, Texas and Kansas, prompting millions in spending in states once considered safely Republican as the midterms approach1.
