Athletes for Action joins Colorado girls’ sports ballot fight
The group is urging a yes vote on Proposition 134, which would bar male students from girls’ teams, ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Athletes for Action has joined Protect Kids Colorado to promote Proposition 134 and has launched a statewide video ad urging a yes vote in the Nov. 3 election1. The measure would require every interschool or intramural team sponsored by a school or athletic association to be designated by biological sex and bar male students from teams designated for females, women or girls2.
The coalition’s release claims that the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights found Jefferson County Public Schools violated Title IX by allowing male students to compete in girls’ sports3. The measure puts fairness for female athletes before Colorado voters, and the issue wins: a November 2024 Napolitan News/RMG poll, cited by American Principles Project, found 75 percent say biological males should not compete in women's sports4.
Athletes for Action says its purpose is protecting girls’ and women’s sports.
In a news release, Paula Scanlan said, “I swam for the University of Pennsylvania and was forced to change in the locker room 18x a week with a fully exposed male.”3 The Colorado Times Recorder reports that Scanlan is also a senior fellow at American Principles Project1.
Athletes for Action co-founder Megan Burke urged people to sign initiatives to protect kids during a Feb. 10 appearance on the Kim Monson show.
The ad names Jennifer Sey, founder of XX-XY athletics, as the group's registered agent, though Colorado's TRACER site showed no record of the group at publication1.
Protect Kids Colorado founder Erin Lee said parents and grandparents gathered signatures one at a time to put the measure on the ballot. Athletes for Action's website says its team led an effort to gather over 225,000 wet signatures to put Prop 134 on the ballot1. Mail ballots reach Colorado voters in October, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov. 33, when those families get their answer.
