Tiffany’s Oct. 22 education agenda would reserve girls’ sports and female locker rooms and bathrooms for girls, barring male students, and require parental consent before schools change a student’s name or pronouns or provide medical services2. He presented the platform in Franklin the day after debating Democratic challenger David Crowley, with education central to the debate, the Journal Sentinel reported through Yahoo.

At the announcement, Tiffany said every parent deserves to know what is happening in their child’s school2. He cited New Richmond School District, which was facing a federal lawsuit and investigation over policies allowing transgender students to use bathrooms aligned with their gender identity. Several proposals resemble a Republican bill Gov. Tony Evers vetoed twice, the report said.

The agenda also would prohibit taxpayer-funded tampons in boys’ public-school bathrooms, let parents review classroom curriculum and strengthen their control over school decisions2. Tiffany proposed A-to-F school report cards; the report says the Department of Public Instruction currently rates schools on a one-to-five-star scale.

Teachers would gain authority to remove students whose violent or disruptive behavior threatens safety or interferes with instruction2. Schools would need behavior intervention plans before those students return. Tiffany also called for higher pay for good teachers and protection from retaliation for maintaining order. Together, the proposals address parents’ authority over school decisions and their children’s safety in class.

Parents have the natural right and responsibility to direct their children’s upbringing; schools must not conceal or take over decisions that belong to families. Girls’ sports and female private spaces must remain sex-based, and Wisconsin should give parents meaningful authority over school decisions.
