Libs of TikTok pairs Musk insults with Tesla’s Roadster demo

Tesla’s Oct. 15 Roadster demonstration gave Libs of TikTok a vivid counterpoint to insults it attributed to Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar.

Libs of TikTok answered years of insults it attributed to Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar with Tesla's Roadster demonstration, posting on Oct. 16: "He just made flying cars." The post credits "One of the most unintelligent billionaires I have ever met" to Ocasio-Cortez and "One of the dumbest people on Earth" to Omar¹.

. Musk made the same claim at the event, according to Fox Business: "Turns out the future does have flying cars²."

At Tesla's October 15 event, the Roadster drove up an inverted ramp, spun in the air and landed, using fans and thrusters, TechCrunch reported. Reuters reported that the two-seat car drove upside down on a ramp using a suction system, then turned in the air and landed using built-in thrusters⁴. TechCrunch added that the car used its thrusters to lift over a Cybercab, Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, Model Y and Model 3 while in motion. Musk called the Roadster "the best of the last of the human-driven cars³."

Tesla's reservation page listed a Performance version requiring a $50,000 deposit and a Thrust version requiring $250,000, Reuters reported. Musk and other executives did not specify any target prices at the event, Reuters reported⁴. Fox Business noted that the company had quoted a $200,000 base price nearly a decade earlier².

Tesla has missed dates before: TechCrunch reports Musk delayed the new Roadster in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024³. Tesla's next stated milestone is production in 2028, nearly nine years after it first showed a next-generation Roadster and said it would start production, Reuters reported⁴.
